St. Valentine's day found a few fencers who love the sport of fencing more than
chocolate showing up at Red Rock. I was away visiting a very sick friend so Frank
was kind enough to cover for me. The pictures and following write up are
compliments of Frank. Thanks for covering for me and happy belated Valentine's day.


"This tournament landed on Valentines Day and only the lonely showed up resulting
in 8 people. Jessica and Joseph started the show with Jessica edging out Joseph.
Next was two time winner (thus having to start off with 2 touches down) Frank (editor's
note: sounds like Frank is trying to make excuses?) and Allen Riekki. Allen was not
intimidated and took out Frank with three double touches in a row. Stephaney went up
against Tony with Tony taking the win. Ryan and Patrick finished off the first round
with Ryan winning in good form.


Jessica met Allen in the semi-finals with Jessica coming from a 3-1 deficit to a
5-4 victory. Putting the arm first does have it’s advantages when you tag a lunge
onto it (editor's note: I hate it when he's right!). Tony and Ryan were next in a
tough close battle which saw very good counter-attacking from each opponent. Ryan
squeaked out over Tony to advance to the finals only to face a former champion, Jessica.



In the final, 14 year old Ryan was the victor over Jessica by getting the last
touch with just over 6 seconds remaining in the bout. We look forward to next
weeks Stab-n-Grab for there will be no more holidays or celebrations for some
time that will interfere." And thus ends Frank's write up.

Also in early April look for more information on the one year anniversary of
the Stab-N-Grab. It will be a Stab-N-Grub as well. There is also a women's
tournament coming up, the first in recent Red Rock memory and another Iron Man
competition. So things are heating up for lots of fencing in the next near future.
