On Super Bowl Sunday, fourteen athletes gathered to try their skill and cunning
and join in battle. With almost as much equipment as football players wear, these
fourteen united in a common passion for competition and sport. Whatever the
personal reasons, or skill level they dared to face another person across the
blue lines. To learn, to grow, to laugh, to cry, to win or to lose, fourteen
warrior spirits joined in one purpose, for one sport, fencing! Ok, I guess I
watched too much superbowl. Anyway, it was a good turn out for Super Bowl Sunday.
Joseph and Libby started round one with Libby winning. Austin and Andrew had the
battle of the Boy Scouts with Andrew moving up. Jin and John followed with Jin's
fast handwork giving him the win. Taylor and Jonah were next with Jonah squeaking
by. Stephanie and Ryan mixed it up with Ryan the victor. Alan and Frank were the
final bout in the first round and Frank barely escaped with his win.
Ava and Libby started round two with Libby again moving up. Andrew and Jin followed
with Jin the victor. Jonah fought Ryan with Ryan winning. Frank and Filip
were the final bout with Filip defeating Frank. Round three started with Libby
Jin. Libby gave it a good try but Jin took the victory. Ryan and Filip followed
and Filip's finesse moved past Ryan.
The final was Jin and Filip. It was an interesting bout to watch. With each of
his bouts Jin was moving better and better. Filip, too was moving better. It
was truly a bout of the best fencers, as well as a repeat of last week's
final. And just like the week before Filip bested Jin and got to be in the winner's
picture embracing Pierre Reposte. All in all it was a good competition, especially
being such a good turnout for Super Bowl Sunday.
