Total Fencers 20
We had twenty fencers show up on Sunday. We've had seventy-six participants to
date for Stab-N-Grabs. We had another new person, the third of the Wojcik's, the
other son Joseph. The Wojcik's now rival the Umanos for the largest family to
participate. We would have had an even bigger group but we lost a couple of fencers
due to life events. All in all, it was a great turnout and the it was great to see
the room full of clanging epees (and two foilests, trying to stay as far away from
us as possible). We also had a returnee, Jin who is back with us from Korea!
With twenty we had to go to a 32 tableau so there were a lot of byes in the first
round. Two strips were running to keep the event from lasting all afternoon.
Stephanie and Filip were the first to do battle and Filip moved past her
pretty easily. Tony and Patrick were next with Tony dominating Patrick. Patrick
had a huge amount of spirit and showed no fear but Tony was twice his size and
wanted to move up. Ken and Greg fought next. Greg had noticed awhile ago that they
had never fought in the SNG, I'm guessing since Ken won easily, Greg might hope
in the future that they don't meet too often. Joseph and Jin were the last of the
first rounders with Jin moving up.
Round two started with Jonah and Filip. Jonah put up a valiant effort but Filip
had his game on. Alan and Frank followed and an elated Alan was the victor.
Sean and Lisa were next with Sean moving past his corporate challenge teammate.
Tony and Taylor fought with Taylor almost beating Tony "The Pirate". Ken
and Jessica faced off and Ken beat the left-hander. Ryan and Libby were next
and in an upset Libby won the bout. John and son, Joseph, fought with the dad,
John moving up. The last bout of round two was Jin and Phillip with Jin winning.
Round three began with Filip and Alan. Alan fought hard but Filip came away with
the win. Sean defeated Tony "The Pirate". In another upset Libby, won over Ken.
Ken pretty consistantly beats her. John and Jin were the final bout with Jin the winner.
Filip and Sean began round four with Sean upsetting Filip. Libby and Jin followed
and in her third upset, Libby come out the winner. This made the final Sean and
Libby. Libby fought hard but Sean was on his game and was able to take the win and
found he has a real fondness for Pierre Reposte! Afterwards the center continued to
ring with the sounds of people fencing and enjoying themeselves. It was the best
turnout of the new year! Hopefully one of many more.
