Total Fencers 13
It was the first event of the second round of Stab-N-Grabs. Everyone
was excited that all the fencers in the event got to fence
to five touches. Frank in particular was excited about being able to
fence more than one touch. We had a participant who traveled all the
way from New York City. Okay, well, Brian used to live here and was
a Red Rock regular who was in town for a job interview. He was so happy
to be able to fence again. He hadn't fenced since he left for his new
job. We also had a world class fencer, Heik, who is normally a foil
fencer and went to the world cup this year, and came in 5th! To say
the least the competition was stiff for this first of the new series.
Round one began with Brian and Stephanie. Brian, although a little rusty
was able to beat Stephanie and move to the second round. Greg faced Filip
and lost. Lisa and Taylor were next and Taylor was able to upset Lisa to
move up. Heik and Austin faced off and Heik with his dancer like moves
was able to move up. Alan and Ken were last with Alan slipping past Ken.
Round two began with Frank and Brian and Frank was able to easily beat
Brian. Filip and Taylor were next with Filip winning. Eric and Heik followed
and Heik once again moved up. The brothers Alan and Jack, the giant killer
were last in the round and Alan easily defeated his brother who is half
his size. Round three saw Frank and Filip, Filip who usually does really well
against Frank was pretty much crushed. I guess Frank had some extra
adrenlene. Heik fenced Alan to finish the round and Heik went on to
the finals.
The room was excited to watch Heik, the world class foil
fencer faced Frank, the world class epee fencer. The room was split
between routing for Frank and Heik. Well, not so much routing for Heik
as routing against Frank. Anyway, it was noisy and Heik ended up the
winner. Frank would want me to add he found out his weapon wasn't
working a couple of touches into the bout but he should have checked it.
At least that's what he would have told us.
