Total Fencers 22
The eighth Stab-N-Grab took place May 31st, with a total of twenty-two fencers.
This is not a record but it is the largest group so far without Corporate
Challenge participants. We also had two new players so the total Stab-N-Grab
participation has now reached 46 people! By the time we reached the semi-finals,
none of the remaining fencers had won before. Let me add that all the previous
winners except one were fencing. It was really exciting to see new people up
for the win.

With twenty-two people participating we had two strips going. It was not as crazy
as the week before but controlled chaos might be a good description. The first round
had six bouts. Eric and Frank were up first. Eric was not happy about this
but Frank did start with three touches against him and Eric nearly took him down.
Ray and Evan were up next. It was Evan's first Stab-N-Grab and as a new fencer
he fought bravely but Ray with more experience and height was able to move up.
Tank, last week's runner up went down to Gehret, as past winner. Greg's reach topped
Michele. Sirley, the crazy Cuban, defeated the left handed Jessica. Lastly Parker,
a newcomer to epee, dropped to Jim, but he made Jim work for it.
Round two saw Frank and Scott face off. Being two of the strongest fencers and
Frank starting down three touches it was exciting. Scott was able to get the
two touches on Frank and the favorite to win was out! Brian and newcomer Philip
were next and Brian took the win. Austin faced Ray and came out the winner.
Gehret and Ken were next with Ken taking down the past winner. Filip, also a
past winner dropped to Greg, who has been lusting after a Stab-N-Grab win.
Sirley and Ramsey were next. It looked more like sabre than epee. Sirley with
more epee experience took the win. Ava and Libby were next with Libby winning.
The round ended with Jim and Ryan. Ryan took the win to move up to the next round.

Round three began with two left-handers, Scott and Brian. In a surprise upset, Brian
took the win. Scott muttered something about not being able to fencer left-handers.
Welcome to the club Scott! Austin and Ken were next. Austin fought hard but Ken won.
Ken is still fencing well after his Corporate Challenge victory. Greg and Sirley were
up next. It was Sirley's speed against Greg's reach. Today, the reach gave Greg the edge to
move up. Libby and Ryan were next with Ryan taking the win.
Round four, the semi-finals, began with Brian and Ken. Brian had the hot hand
and took Ken down. Next up, Greg and Ryan fenced. Again Greg's reach overcame the
shorter and younger Ryan. With a five minute break, Greg and Brian rested and planned
their strategies while everyone wondered who would join the elite winner's circle.

And so, at the end of the day, Greg's reach brought the treasured Pierre
Reposte trophy into his arms. Brian fought hard and well. Brian, who has been fencing
less than a year saw his game to new levels today and we expect we'll see him with
the trophy someday soon. Meanwhile, Greg, victorious, enjoys his win with the
beverage of his choice and one that is often used to inspire him to win.
All in all it was a great day with new victors and upsets galore! Red Rock at its best.
The next Stab-N-Grab will be next Sunday, June 7th.
