Total Fencers 27
Stab-N-Grab number seven, May 24th set all kinds of records. We had a total
of twenty-seven fencers, including seven Corporate challenge participants.
Total Stab-N-Grab participation has now reached 44 people! Not bad for a sunday
afternoon event. We also had our first fencer to reach three wins.
Congratultions to Frank, I guess this is why he's the coach. It should start
to get really interesting because Frank is going to start each bout with
three touches against him. I think he's going to have some serious competition.
So don't give up hope.

With twenty-seven people participating the word for the day was chaos! In order
to keep close to finishing within an hour, we had three strips going until the semi-finals.
It took some time get to get the roster set up with so many people and to get
people lined up for the group picture. We had some first time fencers as well as
the seasoned Stab-N-Grabbers. Everyone pitched in to help direct, get people equiped,
hooked up or get to the correct strip.

Because of the numbers of people who participated I'm not going to go through
all the bouts, there were just too many of them. There were some highlights and
upsets worth noting. We had a match of two brothers, Gehret and Parker, with
Gehret beating out Parker. Parker did really well considering he really is a saber
fencer. There was a corporate challenge person who ended up dropping to Scott after
making it to the third round. Sean, who hasn't been able to show up to fence because
of his work schedule, took down quite a few people to their surprise. Sean ended up
losing to Frank in the final bout. Scott and Filip faced off the first round, both
of them have Stab-N-Grab wins under their belts. That's knocking out
potential finalists early.
The atmosphere was like a three ring circle with so many people and running three
strips. We did finish close to the one hour mark though. There were also corporate
challenge classes going on before and after the Stab-N-Grab, which added to the chaos.
But at the end of the day everyone had fun and tons of fencing. Part of the reason we
had to stick so close to the schedule was we still had the BBQ to go.

The Stab-Grab-N-Grub Memorial Day BBQ, was a blast. Tony brought his grill and cooked
burgers, brauts and chicken. There were all kinds of salads; three bean, German Potatoe
regular potatoe, cole slaw, and fruit. Desserts were overflowing; cookies, cupcakes
brownies and even homemade Key Lime pie, make by Frank. It turns out that Frank learned
to make desserts while studying fencing in Germany! So we have an A fencer, a coach, and
a baker rolled into one person. There were two tables set up with food and all of it was
delicious. Perhaps even more impressive is that it seemed like the fencing never really
ended. There looked to be at least two people fencing all afternoon.
I'd like to thank everyone for participating with the BBQ and the Stab-N-Grab. A
good time was had by all. We'll have to do it again soon. One of the coolest things was that
everyone kept repeating that we have a great group of people at Red Rock and our events
are always fun.
