Total Fencers 12
Stab-N-Grab number six, held on Sunday, May 17th was another success. Total
fencers were only twelve but enthusiasm more than compensated for lack of people.
We had two new people participate. Our total participates to date has now
reached 31. From under 10 years old to over 60 years old. Fencing is truly
a sport for anyone and everyone.
With a tableau of less than sixteen we only had four byes the first round. They
included Tony, Eric, Parker and Ray. Gehret and Filip were the first two to face
off. Gehret was at the top of his form and defeated Filip. There were shouts of
amazement as Filip is usually one of the finalists or at least simi-finalists.
Austin and Libby faced off with Libby sliding into the next round. Greg and Michele
were the next bout with Greg moving up. Cathy and Frank were the next round. Cathy,
for a foil fencer, show a lot of epee moves and caught Frank off guard a few times but
Frank found his form and Cathy lost by a touch.

The second round started with Tony and Gehret, with Gehret again showing perfect
form. Libby dropped to Eric in a cliff hanger. Parker and Greg were up next. It
was a bout of of the tallest against the shortest, and the shortest put up a great
fight but height won out. Frank and Ray were next. This was more a display of the
most experienced and least experienced. Frank (a.k.a. Coach) being the more
experienced won out the day but I think he witnessed some moves from Ray he didn't
see coming.

Gehret began round three with a strong showing by taking down Eric flawlessly.
Greg then faced Frank. There had been a lot of smack talk by Greg earlier in
the day, even an attempt at bribery. But in the end the more experienced fencer
won and Frank went to the final round. Young Gehret faced his teacher and coach
with confidence and and aplumb. Frank was cocky and and tried to be intimating.
The crowd went crazy each time Gehret scored a touch. In the end, Gehret's perfect
day was complete with a victory over Frank. A hugh smile covered his face as he
held the trophy for the winning photo.
