Total Fencers 9

We have a winner! Filip Preradovic won for the fifth time.
Filip is officially the best fencer at Red Rock. He was able to get through
all his bouts without a single touch against him. To top it all off we also
had two new participants bringing out total up to 74. We only had nine people
fencing on Sunday, partly due to the Las Vegas Marathon blocking the driveway
until around 1:30. A few of managed to find our way into the building. So next
week we'll be starting all over with everyone having a clean slate.

With nine people participating there was only one bout in the first round.
Greg and Stephanie were the lucky winners. Greg was able to make quick
work of Stephanie but with an amazing amount of cheering for Stephanie.
Round two began with Andrew and Greg (yes the same Greg). Greg was able
to defeat Andrew. With two victories Greg began lusting for Pierre again
and a fourth win to join the elect group of Frank and Filip. Two first
timers and brothers Martin and August were next. Younger brother Martin
had flawless point control and defeated his brother. Ken and Frank were
next and Ken was able to get the one touch needed to knock Frank out.
Filip and Libby were next and Filip, as usual, was able to take Libby out.

Round three began with Greg and Martin. Greg full of confidence figured
he had the win over the less experienced Martin. However, Martin, after
some wise advice from Libby, used Greg's leaning against him and displayed
some great epee moves and was able to win the bout. Ken and Filip were
the last bout of round three and Ken wasn't able to get the one touch
needed to knock Filip out. Filip was able to get his last touch in the
final second of the bout and so Filip moved to the final.

The final was Martin and Filip. The crowd was mostly on Martin's
side because they didn't want Filip to win. They wanted to keep the
tournament going so they would have a chance to win. There were a few,
very few, who were on Filip's side. Libby made a couple of comments
that if Filip won he would be a better fencer than Frank for which
Frank rapped her shins with his epee. An important lesson to be learned,
never insult your coach when he is standing next to you with an epee,
and another thing to remember, don't repeat the offensive comment a
few minutes later while still standing next to your coach. Anyway, back
to the fencing, Martin gave it a valiant try but Filip stayed cool and
took th win. The room went wild when Filip took the win. Now we restart
the games again and clean slates all around.
Congratulations Filip!
