Total Fencers 11
With only eleven fencers on Sunday the competitors were pretty
excited about their respective changes to win. Many of the favorites
were not present and that opened the door to new possibilities.
And of course Frank was planning for his fourth win and to be the
single leader in the winners circle again. Filip has now joined him
as the other winner of three Stab-N-Grabs.
With only eleven competitors there were only three actual bouts in
the first round. Libby and Greg were up first. Greg was excited about
this because he had not faced Libby in a Stab-N-Grab as far as either
one could remember. Secretly, I think Greg was expecting an easy win.
Unfortunetly for him, Libby had a good first bout and snatched the
victory from Greg. Greg, however was able to find comfort in a cold
beer. John and James were next with the taller and more experienced
James taking the win. Alan R. and Ken were the last of the first
round and in a tight battle Ken was able to move up to the next round.
Stephanie and Libby started round two with Libby taking the win. Alan U.
faced his brother Jack next. Jack with the heart of a lion fought hard
and did all he could to defeat his taller and more experienced brother.
However, heart was not enough to win this day and Alan moved up. Eric
and James were up and in a surprise upset James took the energetic youngster
down. Ken and Frank was the last bout of the round. Ken without even
seeming to break a sweat was able to topple Frank. (This is where I have
been asked to insert the disclaimer that Frank always starts three touches
down, like it's a hardship that he's won three times!).
Round three was Alan U. and Libby with Alan easily defeating Libby.
James and Ken faced off and this time Ken's experience defeated James.
All the competitors in round three and the final were all newcomers to
spending time with Pierre Reposte, so whoever won was going to be a
first timer. And of those four competitors Ken and Alan U. were the
finalists. Alan really wanted the win but Ken has been working really
traveling to various USFA events and competing his little butt off and
today it really showed that he had been working hard when he was able
to take the victory and join the ranks of the Stab-N-Grab winners.
