The curse of Pierre Reposte was broken at Stab-N-Grab number eighteen. Edwin
has now won the tournament twice in a row, the first person to do that. Now he will
start with two touches against him. I expect he will find it a little harder
to take the win now. Our total of participants remains at 60 people. Next
Sunday is our attempt at breaking the Red Rock record and have 30 people or
more show up for the August 23rd Stab-N-Grab. With so many people we are also
making it a Stab-Grab-N-Grub so bring your favorite pot-luck dish. We will NOT be
Bar-B-Q'ing so we'll need main dishes as well as sides and desserts.
With thirteen stabbers we had three byes in the first round. The very first
bout turned out to be one of the most talked about of the event. Frank and
Austin were up first. Austin rolled his eyes at what he thought would be his
impending doom and Frank seemed pretty confident. They faced each other across
the blue lines and twenty-eight seconds later Austin walked off the strip the
winner (5-0) and Frank seemed a little stunned. Seems starting with three touches
against you is harder than it looks.
Michelle and Jessica followed with Michelle moving up. It seems her one epee
lesson really paid off! Edwin and Ken were next with Ken working up a sweat but
Edwin taking the win. Greg and James fenced next and Greg, although claiming not
to be interested in Pierre any more, took down James in pretty quick fashion.
Libby and Phillip were the final first round bout with Phillip moving to the next round.
Round two began with Eric and Austin. Austin again surprised everyone by taking
Eric down with another 5 to zero win. Michelle and Edwin were next with Michelle
putting in a valiant although unsuccessful bid for the win. Stephanie and Greg
were next. Greg, having been heckled in the past about cremating opponents played
the gentleman in his bout with Stephanie, although he did make sure he took the
win. Next up were Phillip and Filip (pronounced the same). Everyone in the room
had fun routing for their favorite Phillip/Filip. In this case Filip moved up.
Round three started with Austin and Edwin. Austin was not able to pull off the
third win so Edwin progressed to the next round. Greg then faced Filip and was
able to use his long, long reach to top Filip. The final combatants were Greg
and Edwin. Edwin was able to hold off Greg and break the curse of Pierre Reposte
and eighteen weeks into the event we had our first two time in a row winner, Edwin.
A dozen or so have signed up for the Ironman event on Saturday August 29th. It
will start at 1pm. There will be a $10 fee for the event. Each competitor will
fence all three weapons. There will be prizes for the top three finishers.
Starting in the next week or so we are going to initiate a post-Stab-N-Grab event.
It's called "The Challenge". In particular Frank is willing to take on any and
all challengers for fifteen touch bouts. It seems such a good idea that it will be
open to anybody who wants to challenge another person. So anyone who wants a
rematch will have the opportunity and anyone who wants to really try their hand
at beating Frank will get the chance as well.
