Total Fencers 14
Fourteen fencers gathered for the seventeenth Stab-N-Grab. We again had a
first timer and our total participants has now reached 60! Thirty people
showing up for August 23rd will be exactly half of the number of people who
have participated. Put the date on your calendar and show up! August 23rd,
start time 2pm promptly (Libby time).
We used the sixteen person tableau so there were two byes the first round,
Filip and Ja were the two lucky people. Tank and Libby were the first bout.
It was a hard fought battle with Tank the winner. First-timer Edwin fenced
Philip with Edwin winning. Michelle and Frank faced off next with Michelle
dropping to Frank. Greg and Alan were pretty evenly matched with Greg
sneaking past Alan whose been practicing at summer camp. Jessica
and Jin were next. Jin with limited mobility was still able to defeat left-
handed Jessica. Although Jin doesn't move much his hand speed and point
control is scary. Jin is leaving town for six months or longer, he expects to
be back sooner. Ramsey and Ken were up next with the epeeist Ken overcoming
the saber fencer Ramsey.
Round two began with Filip and Tank. Filip was able to stop Tank in his
tracks and move to the next round. Edwin and Frank fenced next. Some of the
crowd was routing for Frank, the Red Rock fencer, while others were routing
for Edwin in hopes Frank would not get his fourth win. Edwin took the day
and Frank sat down. Greg and Jin were next, Greg the consumate competitor
was totally focused on the win and did. Ken and Ja were the last bout of
the round. Ken fought hard but Ja took the win.
Round three began with Filip and Edwin competing. The new person Edwin showed
his skills and defeated Filip, a multiple Stab-N-Grab winner. Greg and Ja faced
off next. Greg gave Ja a challenge but Ja was able to take the win. The final
bout was Edwin and Ja. Seems Ja is in the finals often and has won twice already
but today was the newcomer Edwin's day to take Pierre Reposte for the week.
Edwin promised to be back to defend his win.
After the Stab-N-Grab people began to train for the Iron Man competition even Greg
suited up for foil. Ja and Philip gave Libby and Greg foil lessons. Libby
even suited up for saber and Ramsey was kind enough to beat on her for awhile.
Ten people have signed up so far for the event scheduled for August 29th. It
will start at 1pm. There will be a $10 fee for the event.
One other piece of news, the Saturday morning classes (saber at 10 & 11 and Epee
at noon) is now open to adults.
