Total Fencers 9
The fifteenth Stab-N-Grab was the least attended so far with only nine
fencers showing up to do battle. It seemed there were more people watching
than fencing. We did get another first timer to the event, we have now had
fifty-seven (57) people participate at least once. Remember to save August
23rd for coming to the Stab-N-Grab where we want to set a record for
number of people showing up. To beat our record we need 29 or more. I'd
love to see 30 people at least. Write it on your calendar!
The event took just over half an hour with only nine people. Lisa came by
with her brother to show him fencing and missed the final because it was over
so quickly. Ja and Frank were the first to fence. Frank started three down
and Ja started one down. Frank was sure with such a small group that he would
win his fourth. However, Ja took him out the very first round. Frank didn't
even break a sweat. Next up Libby faced the first timer Terence and in an
upset Terence had plenty of time to get ready to go to work at 4pm. Filip
and Ken were next. Ken nearly took Filip down, who started with a handicap
of two, but alas and alack, Ken was not able to defeat young Filip. Michele
and Jeff faced off with Jeff overcoming Michele's foilist style.
The next round started with Ja and Libby. In a surprise, Libby and Ja were
tied 4 to 4 twice before Ja was able to knock Libby out. Filip and Jeff were
up next with Filip defeating Jeff. Filip was then looking at only one
person between him and breaking "The Curse Of Pierre Reposte". It seems
there is a rumor going around that nobody can win Pierre twice in a row.
I believe the rumor was started by Frank, since he hasn't been able to win
twice in a row, there must be a metaphysical reason, because he's an A-09
and really should be winning more often according to his reasoning. Hummm,
interesting theory anyway. So, back to the fencing. Ja and Filip were the
finalists. It was a great bout to watch as they are both so graceful and
talented. In the end Ja took the day. As you might be able to tell from the
winner photo Ja was pretty happy about it.

We also had the raffle drawing. It seems it was a great day to be Ja because
he won the raffle too. He gets a fencing blade of his choice. So, Ja was the
double winner on the 26th. We all suggested he needed to buy some lottery tickets
or something.
Besides trying to break the Stab-N-Grab record we are going to have another
event coming up in August, the 1st Red Rock Iron Man competition. It is a three
weapon event. Each competitor will fence all three weapons and score points for
wins in each weapon. The overall winner will be the Iron Man winner. The event
will be scheduled for a Saturday. There will be a $10 entry fee for this event.
One other piece of news, the Saturday morning epee class is now open to adults.
It seems the kids have moved away or are better than the adults.
