Total Fencers 15

Attendance was down for event number ten, only fifteen people showed. It was a
hard core group though. We still had a newcomer and we now have had over 50 people
participate at least once in our little tournament. Who knew there were so many
closet Sunday afternoon fencers. It's hard to convey the fun. It's not as stressful
as a regular tournament but the desire to win is still very present. All in all
it makes Sundays a lot more interesting than ten weeks ago when only a couple of
people would show up. With the Nevada Championship coming up fast (June 27 - 28)
it's a great practice tournament.

With only fifteen fencers all but one person had a first round bout. Ken was the
lucky winner of the bye. Michele and Jessica were the first fencers.
Michele with her straight and long arms beat the left handed Jessica. Deanna, new to
fencing lost against the more experienced Eric. Gehret dropped to Alan R. but Alan
had to work for it. Frank is now at a real disadvantage starting each of his bouts
with three touches against him. Today he dropped to Ja. Dominic dropped kicked Tony
through the goal posts of defeat. (Are football metaphors acceptable in fencing?).
Alan U. lost to Scott, who now has two touches against him and is working harder
to win his bouts too. Libby and first timer Stephanie fenced with Libby moving up.

Ken defeated Michele in the second round. Eric fought hard and took down Alan R.
Ja took down Dominic after giving up a couple of touches. Scott and Libby went to
a four touch tie to have Scott beat Libby. With Scott already winning two events
the crowds were cheering her on, not so much for Libby to win but for Scott to lose.

Ken started fround three by defeating Eric. Eric spent most of the time at the back
line and made some amazing saves but Ken wanted the win more. Ja and Scott was probably
the fastest bout of the day. Scott was already down two touches and Ja, who came in
second to Scott last week really wanted the victory this week and so he did. Ja was
right on and didn't miss a shot. Scott's reflexes were amazing but he started behind
and wasn't able to get ahead. The final bout was Ken and Ja. After last week's loss
Ja was jazzed to win. Ken had his eyes on Pierre Reposte (the trophy) as well but alas
it was not to be his this week. Ja took the day and smiled the rest of the afternoon.

This week was the first use of the donation can for the event to help cover the costs
of running the air conditioning. We asked for voluntary donations for participating.
We actually raised $75 between the donations and the raffle tickets, a once a month
drawing with a prize of a new blade (blade type of your choice). Tickets are $5 each.

The next Stab-N-Grab will be next Sunday, June 21th.
There will be NO Stab-N-Grab on Sunday June 28th due to the Nevada Championships.
