Sunday April 5th, saw the first, of hopefully many, Stab-N-Grab events.
Twelve competitors rallied on a Sunday afternoon to test their skills, and
well, to have fun. Participants began to show up at 1pm to warm up and to
see if the magic number of eight materialized to qualify to begin the quest
for the golden sword.

As two o'clock crept closer the count towards eight got closer and closer.
By 1:45pm eight had arrived and enthusiasm climbed even higher. Lustful
glances were cast at the golden sword mounted on the wall as designs for the
progress towards ownership began. The group gathered around the center area and
cards were drawn to select seeding positions. To start ten participants were
listed. Two late-comers showed up as the first bouts were fought and were thrown
in the mix.



The bouts began shortly after 2pm and were fought one at a time. The event
was set up as direct elimination five touch bouts. All the fencers were at
their best. Most of the bouts went to la belle and all were exciting. As
fencers were eliminated they went on to fence on the side strips while the
main bouts were all fought on Strip One.

At last, the final bout arrived. Everyone in the center gathered around
Strip One and the cheering began. It was a well fought battle of titans,
well, it was a good bout anyway! The winner was proclaimed at 3pm. After
congratulations were shared and photos taken, fencers broke into pairs
and the clash of weapons echoed throughout the fencing hall. By 3:45pm
everyone finally had enough fencing and headed home. All present
expressed their enjoyment and are looking forward to the next
Stab-N-Grab and a chance to win.
